Eligibility

As outlined in the Â鶹ֱ²¥Regulations (Section C5.3), the eligibility criteria for subspecialty written and oral examinations are as follows:

Written Examination:

Subspecialty trainees will be eligible to sit the Subspecialty Written Examination when, at the closing date for applications for that examination, they have been credited with a minimum of forty-six (46) weeks FTE of prospectively approved and satisfactory training in the subspecialty training program.

Oral Examination:

All subspecialty trainees, except for CU trainees, will be eligible to sit the Subspecialty Oral Examination when, at the closing date for applications for that examination, they have been credited with a minimum of forty-six (46) weeks FTE of prospectively approved and satisfactory training in the subspecialty training program.

Important Reminder:

Candidates planning to sit the examination must submit their Training Assessment Record (TAR) as soon as possible after the end of the semester and well before the stipulated due date to allow sufficient time for review and approval. This is particularly important for candidates who have not yet been credited with the minimum required training weeks (46 weeks) at the time of submitting their expression of interest for the examination. In such cases, approval of the TAR by the application closing date is essential to meet the eligibility criteria.

Online application process

Please follow the steps below to apply online.

Submit your online Expression of Interest form to sit the examination

Please see the relevant Dates and Registration section above

All expressions of interest are subject to eligibility checks after the application closing date. The eligibility criteria include the payment of your training fee for the current year, as well as the completion of TARs by the Expressions of Interest closing date.

Once the eligibility checks have been finalised, you will receive a letter from the Examinations Team confirming your eligibility outcome to sit the examination (within four weeks of the applications closing.

Should you be eligible, you must pay the examination fees within seven days to secure your examination placement.

Please advise the Examinations team via email (examinations@ranzcog.edu.au):

If you have a sponsor for the examination

If you wish to withdraw from an examination after submitting your expression of interest form or exam payment.

Before submitting your application, please refer to the Â鶹ֱ²¥Regulations (sections C4–C5 on the Subspecialty Examinations) and the Examinations Policy and Procedure (section 2-Subspeciality Examinations Written and Oral) for more information on topics such as eligibility, availability of places and withdrawals.

Format

Trainees must complete a written and oral examination for subspecialty certification in:

Gynaecological Oncology (CGO)

Maternal Fetal Medicine (CMFM)

Obstetrical and Gynaecological Ultrasound (COGU)

Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI)

If you’re undertaking subspecialty training in urogynaecology (CU), you must complete a written examination only.

Any requests for examination accommodations must be made by an application for special consideration, accompanied by evidence of the exceptional grounds for the application. For further information pertaining to Exceptional Circumstances and Special Consideration, refer to the Exceptional Circumstances and Special Consideration Policy – RANZCOG

Written examination

The written examination comprises 10 short-answer questions (150 marks) to assess your knowledge and understanding of the curriculum. The time allowed is 3 hours and 15 minutes.

In 2025, the written examination will be delivered in a computer-based format, at examination centres and College regional offices in major cities across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Please refer to the online registration form when applications are open for a list of cities.

For more information on the breadth and depth of knowledge required to successfully sit the examination, please refer to your subspecialty handbook.

Oral examination

All Subspecialty Oral Examinations (with the exception of CREI) are delivered face-to-face at the Assessment Learning and Examination Centre (ALEC) in Melbourne using a structured oral examination format.

Results

Trainees will be advised of the release date for results at a pre-examination Q&A webinar held prior to the examination.

On this date, you will be able to access your results by logging into Integrate with your five-digit Â鶹ֱ²¥ID number and your password.

The College recommends accessing your Integrate account well before the release date to confirm your login details. To reset your password, please click the ‘Forgotten password’ link.

Please note that the College has several mechanisms in place to check all examination results during processing to ensure they are correct prior to release. As such, the College does not remark examinations unless a procedural error has been identified after results have been released.
